Casper Wortmann is an artist and machine learning engineer working at the intersection of art and artificial intelligence. With a background in performative arts (Maastricht Institute of Performative Arts) and a Master ’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam, he explores how algorithms can become artistic collaborators.
His work spans interactive installations, robotics, and data-driven environments that merge computation with performative experience. For the exhibition
Ma Yansong: Architectuur en Emotie at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, he developed an AI Interactive Table — an installation that interprets visitors’ sketches through a neural network trained on imagery from MAD Architects, transforming gestures into architectural form.
Wortmann has contributed to numerous large-scale international art and design projects, creating AI-driven experiences that integrate computer vision, real-time interaction, and generative design. His practice builds on earlier collaborations with theatre maker Dries Verhoeven on performances including
Phobiarama,
Happiness,
Dear Beloved Friend,
Alles Moet Weg, and
Broeders verheft u ter vrijheid.
His works have been presented at festivals such as Oerol and in institutions including Frascati Theater, and he worked on numerous projects for the London-based design studio FIELD.IO. Bridging the worlds of art and artificial intelligence. Wortmann’s work investigates how machines can not only observe but also create, revealing the poetic and unpredictable spaces between human and algorithmic imagination.
